Iberia and Mexicana broaden code share pact

Spain`s Iberia and Mexico`s Mexicana airlines have broadened their code-sharing agreement…

Spain`s Iberia and Mexico`s Mexicana airlines have broadened their code-sharing agreement, adding two new destinations each. As of February 26, Iberia codes will be attached to Mexicana`s flights joining Mexico City to Oaxaca and Merida. Meanwhile, Mexicana passengers will be able to fly under Mexicana`s code on Iberia flights between Madrid and Malaga and Santiago de Compostela.

When the new agreement takes effect, Iberia passengers bound for Mexico can book their connecting flights from the Mexican capital to the cities of Monterrey, Guadalajara, Puerto Vallarta, Veracruz, Acapulco, and now Oaxaca and Merida.

Mexicana`s passengers bound for Spain can book their connecting flights from the Spanish capital to Barcelona, Bilbao, Valencia, Seville, Oviedo, Vigo, and now Malaga and Santiago de Compostela.

The initial agreement went into force last April 15, after having been signed by the chairmen of the two carriers in January, 2004. In addition to the code-sharing accord, another agreement was signed allowing members of the Iberia Plus frequent flyers programme and Mexicana`s Programa Frecuenta to earn and spend points with either airline.
