Establishes new bases for its Dornier 328 jet fleet

Icejet beats the recession

Icejet, the Icelandic private jet operator has moved quickly to optimise its business having taken the strategic decision to base four of its five Dornier 328 Jets at airports in Europe. One of its 14-seat Envoy aircraft is now based in Le Bourget in Paris; a second has gone to Riga in the Baltic States and two aircraft – including its 19-seat corporate shuttle version – last month arrived at their new home at Oxford Airport in the UK. The company, represented by Managing Director Jon Ingi Jonsson, who has a dual role as an Icejet 328 captain, is participating at EBACE in Geneva next week (12-14 May) with its 14-seat Envoy on the static display (Stand 32).

“We have had a very difficult six months,” he says, referring to the unprecedented financial difficulties in his home country. This meant that the company faced a long wait to receive payments earned, but the banking environment is back to normal now.  Icejet undertakes all of its business in and around Europe with 100% of its revenues earned in Euros. “This has insulated us from the decline in value of the Icelandic Krona, although we did at one time consider changing our name,” Jonsson conceded.

“We are very grateful for all the support and trust we’ve had – before and after Iceland’s financial difficulties – from the broker fraternity. Aircraft brokers based in the UK and Europe account for some 75% of our total bookings and they are telling us the 328 Jet has been a popular choice of late, more cost effective to charter than a Global Express or Challenger 604 for example, with its spacious cabin and 750kg cargo space.”

“We are definitely seeing the green shoots of recovery with more forward bookings coming through. We are also hopeful of securing a regular shuttle contract out of Oxford and will be working with their FBO oxfordjet and operators to maximise our presence at this great airport, which is ideal for the 328 which can operate at full load out of its runway.”

Icejet, now in its fourth year, is looking to sell two of its 328Jets, yet offering an AOC management package, keeping them close to their. They will also continue to be supported through ICEFBO and Hangar One, at Reykavik Airport, which is an EASA 145 organization

Icejet is part of the Nordic Partners Investment Group and is part of its luxury product portfolio. Along with Icejet, the group looks after a brand new 110ft luxury yacht D’Angleterre now available for charter in the eastern Mediterranean.
