The XVII EDITION of BTL – Lisbon Travel Market, will engage the participation of 40 countries amongst Angola, Greece and Czech Republic as new official delegations. In the field of newcomers, BTL will also welcome Australia, Denmark, USA and Japan, that will all join us thru tourism and travel agencies. It is also worthwhile mentioned that Goa will attend, for the first time, with an independent representation.

Once again, Brazil and Spain will be the countries with the biggest exhibition area. Brazil will have the same exhibition area of 2004 and 52 companies attending the exhibition. Spain will increase its number of direct exhibitors including two new regions (Caceres and Badajoz).

Lisbon Travel Market – BTL – will open the doors, on the 19th of this month, to a world of dreams, holidays and leisure, but still under the shadow of chock and sadness that come from the devastating tsunami that occur on December 26th, making an unprecedented number of lost lives and damages.

BTL expresses its deepest sympathy to all the victims of this tragedy – local population and tourists – and sends its condolences to their relatives and friends. BTL also expresses its tribute to all the efforts that are being made on behalf of this cause.

Thailand and India will attend the 17? Edition of this Event demonstrating the effort, commitment and importance of the tourism sector for their countries, seriously affected in some areas, although some of the main global tourism destinations are still fully operational, such as in Bangkok and Chiang Mai in Thailand, Goa – also represented in BTL with an independent delegation – and most of India.

Destination Portugal already a success

The initiative DESTINATION PORTUGAL, that was oriented with the aim of bringing foreign tourism operators to the event that could leverage the incoming of tourists, will bring 62 professionals from markets such as Germany, USA, France, Italy, Holland, Japan, Norway, United Kingdom, Russia and Greece.

The invited operators, of which 67 gave a positive reply, will be available to meet with the Portuguese companies that wish to present their products, during the first 2 days of the exhibition, in Pavilion 2. In order to take full advantage from the presence of the foreign operators, the meetings should be previously scheduled. The operators, the “buyers” of destination Portugal, come from selected markets such as France, United Kingdom, Italy, Spain, Germany, Scandinavia, USA, Russia – a rising market and good watcher of the products offered by Portugal – and Japan.

This initiative is already exceeding the best expectations, concerning the number of national tourism operators interested in contacting with the buyers and also due to the business opportunities expected, which allow us to conclude that this initiative will further leverage BTL internationalisation.
