Portable defibrillators are now set to be installed on board most Aegean Airlines crafts, according to a recent announcement, making Aegean Airlines<.> a leading contender to other large foreign airlines, such as Virgin Atlantic, British Airways, American Airline, Delta Airline, Swiss Air, United Airlines and Lufthansa who already have equipped their planes with such devices. The new devices, by Gamma Air Medical, designed to deliver an electric shock and stop the spasmodic ineffectual heart contractions known as fibrillation, are now set to provide immediate assistance to passengers suffering a heart attack on board. The airline said that the device, which it called an Automatic Electronic Defibrillator (AED), is very simple to use and does not require expert medical staff to be on hand, and added that the device itself, when connected to a patient through two electrodes, shows whether a patient is fibrillating or not. The announcement from Aegean Airlines further noted that all of the air carrier`s cabin crews are going to follow a relevant training program so as to better acquaint themselves with the use of the new devices.
