SECC sees association new business boost

The Scottish Exhibition + Conference Centre (SECC) has announced a series of association conference wins that will bring some of the leading medical associations to Glasgow. RenewableUK will welcome an expected 3,000 delegates this week at the SECC – their biggest ever event – and begins the first of six repeat events to the venue over the next 18 months.

November sees the welcome return of the UK Stroke Forum following their best ever delegate turnout in Glasgow last year. Over the course of 2011 and into 2012, the SECC will also welcome the British Society of Interventional Radiology (2011), the British Oncology Pharmacy Association (2011), the British Academic Conference on Otolaryngology (2012), the British Society for Rheumatology, and Diabetes UK.

“These are brilliant events for the SECC; we have the delegate pool to deliver attendance growth and the venue capacity for them to expand in the long term,” comments Ben Goedegebuure, Sales Director at the SECC. “These wins are a welcome boost to the business and underline that with the right price, product and proposition there is long term business out there.”

“These are great wins for the city and underline that despite the transient nature of association business, if a destination gets it right then these conferences will come back year after year,” comments Scott Taylor, Chief Executive of Glasgow City Marketing Bureau. “Medical conferences continue to flourish in Glasgow, many delegates are repeat visitors to the city for this kind of professional event and enjoy coming, which makes us a first choice for organisers.”
