Swissport chosen to provide fuelling operations at Newcastle International Airport

Swissport International, is expanding its fuelling operations into Europe

Swissport International, is expanding its fuelling operations into Europe. From January 2005 Swissport will offer into-plane fuelling for all carriers at Newcastle International Airport. The new operation will involve some 30,000 flights and over 100 million litres of fuel per year. Further developments in this business field are currently being planned.

Newcastle will become the first Swissport fuelling station outside the USA, where the global ground-handling group is already active at 12 airports. Swissport has been chosen to operate the airport`s new `state of the art` fuel facility constructed by the Airport that will come into operation on 1 January 2005.

The network and product expansion marks an important step forward for Swissport in this growing business line. It also forms part of the group`s declared strategy of striving to serve as a single-source provider for its airline customers. As well as into-plane fuelling services, Swissport`s activities in Newcastle will also include maintaining and operating the fuel storage system.

We are delighted to be starting fuelling operations in Europe, says Joseph In Albon, President & CEO of Swissport International. This new business marks an important step in our strategy of expanding our customer offering at airports by adding new services.

John Parkin, Chief Executive of Newcastle International Airport said: This new facility and its operation is excellent news for our airline customers. We believe it will provide the most modern and cost-effective option for fuel in the airline industry.

More activities on the cargo front

Swissport Cargo Services will commence its freight operations in Budapest on December 1. The new collaboration with the Budapest Airport authorities will enable Swissport to extend its network into Eastern Europe, a promising market that is growing in importance.
