Swissport has been awarded the third handling license at Glasgow Airport with immediate effect. This license is for full aircraft handling as well as line maintenance and fuelling. The company will open its office at the airport shortly.

Glasgow becomes Swiss port’s seventh base in the United Kingdom alongside Gatwick and Stansted Airports (which, like Glasgow, are owned and operated by BAA plc), Manchester, Birmingham and Newcastle Airports as well as London City Airport (where Swissport operates as a supervisory agent for Swiss International Air Lines).

Glasgow is the busiest airport in Scotland and now handles 8.6 million passengers to more than 100 destinations.

The airport, opened in 1966, has over 93,000 movements a year.

“We are delighted to be opening at Glasgow Airport, our first base in Scotland,” Nigel Daniel, Chief Executive Officer Swissport UK said. “Glasgow forms part of our planned expansion program and we look forward to working with our airline customers to deliver excellent and punctual services to their passengers.”

Swissport has recently announced its appointment as supervisory agents to Swiss International Air Lines at London City Airport and also the award of a contract to handle First Choice Airways at Gatwick Airport, marking their first move into the Sussex Airport’s North Terminal.
