The Malta Tourism Authority will present the fourth edition of the Malta Fireworks Festival on the 29th and 30th April 2005. This event is being held in connection with the first anniversary of Malta`s entry into the European Union one year ago.

The Grand Harbour was once again chosen as the site of the festival because it offers what is probably one of the most breath-taking views in the world,

encompassing the forts of St Angelo, Ricasoli and St. Elmo, as well as the Valletta and Senglea fortifications.

During the festival, three fireworks factories will each give a spectacular pyro-musical (fireworks synchronised to music) display. The 15th August Fireworks Factory of Mosta, the St Mary Fireworks Factory of Mqabba and the St. Michael`s Fireworks Factory of Lija will demonstrate their ability in the craft of the unique Maltese fireworks displays under the computer-controlled system of the world`s most advanced firing technology called `FireOne`.

On the final night, a fireworks display synchronised to music will also be presented by the world-renowned Orzella fireworks company from Italy.

Apart from these displays, ten other local fireworks factories will be demonstrating their abilities in the field of traditional Maltese fireworks. Moreover, on Friday night there will be a special display of large mechanical ground fireworks.

On both nights, there will be a 20-minute audio visual show about the Knights of Malta and the Great Siege of1565. This show will include projections on Fort St. Angelo, light effects, pageantry and special fireworks effects.

The area around Lascaris Wharf will be the focus of other activities which will be taking place during the festival, including band marches and traditional Maltese food. However, the highlight of the festival is sure to be the firework displays themselves which will serve as a preview of fireworks let off during the Maltese festa season which takes place later in the year.
