TUI comes back in Romania starting 2010

Τhe Romanian Ministry of Tourism signed a partnership with the German operator TUI to restart its activity on the Romanian market starting next year, stated Elena Udrea, the Minister of Tourism. In the autumn of 2009, the ministry will publish a catalogue with TUI, which will also include Romania.

Moreover, the Ministry of Tourism negotiates with Air Berlin german operator to launch a charter flight starting next spring, in order to bring German tourists on Mihail Kogalniceanu Airport in Constanta.

In 2006, TUI group renounced bringing tourists in Romania and withdrew the Romanian tourist resorts from its advertising catalogues, due to the unconformity of the accommodation conditions, high prices, noise and poor cleaning in resorts.

Tim Grosse, General Manager of Danubius company, TUI subsidiary in Romania, stated that the authorities will have to meet 4 minimal conditions so that the German group starts re-operate in Romania, following the meeting with Elena Udrea in March.

The first condition was seaside functionality during a well defined season, starting on May 15 at the latest and ending on September 15. The second condition was related to direct flights between Germany and Constanta, at competitive prices. The third condition was that the Minister of Tourism, together with TUI, launched common marketing campaigns to better promote the destination Romania. The last condition of TUI was that hotel rates on Romanian seaside to be competitive.
