The University of Surrey has topped the Guardian newspaper league tables for tourism for the third year in a row. It achieved the highest score of 84% over a number  of criteria such as value added, entry scores and student/staff ratios, gaining maximum marks for its staff profile, job prospects and spending per student. Surrey is the longest established centre for tourism studies in England and is particularly noted for its close links with the industry.

Commenting on this success Professor John Tribe who leads the tourism group said “I am delighted that Surrey has retained and strengthened its position as the top tourism school in the country. It is particularly exciting that we should achieve this result in the year when we celebrate the 40th anniversary of tourism at the University”. David Airey, University Pro Vice Chancellor and Professor of Tourism Management, added “This is a great tribute to our students and the academics who work in the group. It also underlines the fact that Surrey tourism graduates are highly sought after in the industry”.

Professor Tribe said that Surrey had an ambitious mission statement to provide world-class education, scholarship and research in tourism and that to further this aim the University is offering scholarships of £1000 to EU students attaining A-level grades of at least AAB for entry to its undergraduate programmes and bursaries of £1500 for postgraduate programmes in tourism.
