Why luxury holidays are becoming so popular for Britons

As a nation, Brits are tightening their belts – but not always when it comes to a luxurious break abroad. A report by ABTA predicts strong growth in high-end holidays, with cruising, adventure, exploration, learning and activity holidays all expected to do well as holidaymakers seek new experiences at value for money prices.

The biggest growth in the UK holiday market is among high-end and budget holidays. Even with many families taking steps to make savings on their everyday expenditure, more and more people are splashing out on luxury breaks abroad. With Brits working harder than ever in tough economic times, they are choosing to spend their well-earned rest in the best possible surroundings. Travel giant Thomas Cook reports an increase in all types of luxury break, from money-savvy all-inclusive trips, to adventure holidays and stays in far flung climes.

A report by ABTA predicts strong growth in high-end holidays, with cruising, adventure, exploration, learning and activity holidays all expected to do well as holidaymakers seek new experiences at value for money prices. Holidaymakers are also expected to prioritise destinations that have a strong and authentic sense of location, in everything from food and setting to excursions and entertainment.

Those with funds to spare are willing to splurge on captivating holidays to Cuba, taking in the extraordinary, unique culture of this Caribbean paradise and all it has to offer. Many holidaymakers are also taking advantage of luxury Mexico breaks, travelling halfway around the world for that perfect holiday idyll. At a time when most Brits are looking to save in all and any aspects of life, holidays are fast becoming an exception to the rule.

Holidays to the USA continue to be popular, although such long-haul destinations remain an expensive option for family groups. At the other end of the scale, bargain breaks to the best-value destinations in Europe are also on the rise, while mid-price holidays are proving less popular than ever before. What is clear from these figures is that people are still willing to push the boat out when it comes to that all-important two weeks in the sun.

All-inclusive holidays are proving increasingly popular across the board, even at the luxury end of the market. More and more holiday-goers are seeking the freedom to indulge during their time away, and the reassurance of a bill with no nasty surprises on check-out day. Even those who are willing to splash the cash on a special holiday are still watching the costs to make sure they are getting the most for their money.
