In October 1998, Olympic Fuel Company S.A., undertook the design, funding, construction, maintenance and operation of the hydrant refuelling system in Athens International Airport El. Venizelos. Olympic Fuel Company S.A. is formed by Olympic Airways, Motor Oil, Avin Oil, BFSC Belgium, and HansaConsult Germany, a fruitful cooperation of the Greek home carrier with the private sector of the Hellenic Oil Industry and International Aviation Fuel Organizations.
Operating the most sophisticated facilities in Europe for the receipt, storage, and distribution of aviation fuel, which are controlled by an Automation System, and in accordance with the strict requirements of Athens International Airport S.A., the Olympic Fuel Company provides prompt service with top quality fuel and at the lowest possible cost, with full respect to the environment.
Olympic Fuel Company, in May 10th 2005, in cooperation with Fire Department of Airport and the participation of Police Department and the EKAB, organised with success the Yearly Fire Exercise.
The scenario was fire in Fuel Tank No.1 with fuel leakage in the same time and injury of 2 people.
The extinction of the fire in a very short time, was a result of good coordination among Fire Department, Police and EKAB also with help of Airport`s trained personnel. The success of Fire exercise established the full availability of all parties in case of emergency.
In the meeting that followed, with the participation of all parties, after the review and analysis of all actions taken during the exercise, useful conclusions came up considering the improvement of the procedures in case of emergency situations.
