Launch adds service between airport and fashion runways of Miami and Milan.

MIAMI – On June 8, officials from Miami-Dade County and Air Italy celebrated the airline’s launch of four weekly flights at Miami International Airport with a ribbon-cutting ceremony for its first flight from Milan. The new service will provide more flights between the airport and fashion show runways of Miami and Milan – two of the top cultural destinations in the world.

“Congratulations to Air Italy on its successful expansion into Miami-Dade County,” said Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez. “We look forward to welcoming hundreds of new visitors every week from Milan to our community, and to providing our residents another flight option to Italy.”

The inaugural arrival from Milan was welcomed with a water cannon salute, followed by a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by: Miami-Dade Aviation Director Lester Sola, Special Assistant to Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Gimenez Diana Fernandez; Vice Consul General of Italy in Miami Lucio Taglione; Air Italy Chief Operating Officer Neil Mills; and Greater Miami Convention and Visitors Bureau Chief Operating Officer Rolando Aedo.

“We are honored that Air Italy chose Miami as its first destination in the southeast U.S.,” said Miami-Dade Aviation Director Lester Sola. “More than 288,000 passengers already travel between MIA and Italy every year, and we expect that number to increase because of Air Italy’s new service.”

Air Italy, which chose Miami and New York (JFK) as its first two U.S. destinations, is using 260-seat Airbus 330-200 wide-body aircraft that includes 24 angle-flat seats in business and 236 in economy.

“Air Italy will offer our customers a true Italian-style experience,” said Neil Mills, Air Italy Chief Operating Officer. “They will sense upon landing the beauty of Italy and our warm welcome, thanks to Air Italy's high quality on-board service and in-flight entertainment tailored to every individual. Our modern A330 and the new Boeing 737 MAX are exceptional aircraft – now operating from Malpensa to the four wonderful Italian destinations of Campania, Sicily, Sardinia and Calabria."
