MYRTLE BEACH, SOUTH CAROLINA, USA – Myrtle Beach, where more than 3.5 million rounds of golf are played annually, has been recognised as the USA’s top golf destination in an influential public poll conducted by golf.com, one of the world’s largest golf websites.
The Golfers’ Choice Awards polled nearly 6,000 travelling golfers over a six-week period and ranked Myrtle Beach as the ‘Favourite U.S. Destination’, ‘Favourite U.S. Destination for Value’ and ‘Favourite U.S. Spot for a Trip with Golf Friends’.
The Myrtle Beach and ‘Grand Strand’ area, stretching more than 60-miles from Pawleys Island, South Carolina, to North Carolina’s Brunswick County, draws 15.2 million visitors every year and is blessed with some of the most picturesque beaches on the East Coast of the United States.
To complement its 79 championship standard golf courses, visitors can choose from a diverse range of accommodation, restaurants and entertainment, as well as experience a host of outdoor activities including hunting, fishing, water exploration and state park visits.
With non-stop air services from more than 25 U.S. cities, Myrtle Beach is very accessible. For international visitors, straightforward connections can be made through Atlanta, Georgia (75 minutes flight time) and Charlotte, North Carolina (50 minutes flight time).
The Grand Strand currently has four courses (Dunes Club, Caledonia, TPC Myrtle Beach, Barefoot Resort’s Love Course) rated in the Top 100 Public Courses ranking published by Golf Digest and Golf Magazine, and 51 courses with at least a four-star rating by Golf Digest. Course architects include Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, Tom Fazio, Robert Trent Jones, Rees Jones, Pete Dye and Greg Norman.
Myrtle Beach is no stranger to golf awards. In 2014, it was voted ‘Best Golf Destination in the World’ in the 10Best Travel Awards sponsored by USA TODAY, and in 2013, a National Golf Foundation survey spotlighted Myrtle Beach as the game’s most popular destination for American and Canadian golfers.

Myrtle Beach is also home to the world’s largest amateur golf event, the World Amateur Handicap Championship, which this year takes places between August 31 and September 4. More than 50 of Myrtle Beach’s best courses are used for the event that is expected attract over 3,000 competitors from every state of America and from more than 30 countries.
