The State Secretary of Brandenburg and Airport Coordinator Rainer Bretschneider is the new Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH. Bretschneider was appointed unanimously in today’s meeting. Holger Roller, Berlin Regional Secretary of trade union ver.di Vereinte Dienstleistungsgewerkschaft Berlin region, will remain as Vice-Chairman.

The new members of the Supervisory Board are: Dr. Margaretha Sudhof, State Secretary in the Senate Committee of Finance, Gerry Woop, State Secretary for Europe in the Senate Committee of Culture and Europe, as well as Prof. Dr.-Ing. Norbert Preuss, Managing Director of CBRE PREUSS VALTEQ GmbH.

Dr. Manfred Bobke-von Camen was appointed as a third executive officer and Personnel Director. Bobke-von Camen is a lawyer. He begins his duties on Monday.

State Secretary Rainer Bretschneider, Chairman of the Supervisory Board: “It is important to me that, as a collective body, the Supervisory Board faces up to its responsibility. The completion of the new appointments in the airport’s executive body and Supervisory Board is a chance that we must take advantage of. We bear the responsibility for ensuring that Project BER is brought to a conclusion as soon as possible. This can only be achieved through good teamwork, characterised by trust and professionalism.”

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Engelbert Lutke Daldrup, CEO of Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH: “We have two main duties in the airport company. On the one hand, we must continue to safeguard and ensure reliability of operation status. And we must finally bring BER online. This means we must continue to hone our working practice. Furthermore, we also expect that deadlines will be confirmed by service providers and construction companies. In addition, project organisation and their service providers must be optimally established. I will only make a recommendation to the Supervisory Board once the requirements for announcing an opening date have been met.”

As already reported, the finance concept of Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH was successfully implemented in mid-February 2017. Completion of verification of the 2017 business plan has led to the result that, despite a delay in opening BER Airport, no major effects have arisen with respect to the 2017 business result.

The very successful operation of Schonefeld and Tegel airports continues. In the first two months of 2017, over 4.5 million passengers flew from Berlin. That is eight percent more than in the same period in 2016. However, the strike implemented by the ground staff service provider will make itself felt in the March traffic figures. In total 2,278 flights were cancelled on the days affected by strike action.
