Pulkovo Airport announces new routes for the winter season 2019/2020

Pulkovo Airport new additions in the upcoming winter season will include direct service to four destinations, which were launched in the summer and fall of 2019.

Pulkovo St. Petersburg Airport will launch new international and domestic routes in the IATA Winter season 2019/2020. The airport operator Northern Capital Gateway (NCG) and the airlines announced the upcoming additions to the schedule on October 4, 2019, at the traditional winter season routes presentation.

New routes for winter schedule
Pulkovo Airport new additions in the upcoming winter season will include direct service to four destinations, which were launched in the summer and fall of 2019. The new low-cost carrier at Pulkovo, Wizz Air UK, will continue to perform flights from the Northern capital of Russia to London Luton Airport (the United Kingdom). The Chinese airline Lucky Air will continue to provide direct service to Kunming (China). Two Russian airlines announced plans to continue into the winter period domestic flights: S7 Airlines to Irkutsk, Azimuth to Elista.

New routes will also include flights from St. Petersburg to the Russian cities. Alrosa will launch service to Novokuznetsk. Pobeda will perform flights to Astrakhan.

Additional flights
During the winter navigation of 2019/2020, many carriers plan to launch flights to new points in their route networks. The Russian low-cost carrier Pobeda will continue to increase its presence on the domestic routes. The airline is planning to provide service from St. Petersburg to Kazan, Nalchik, Novosibirsk, Perm, Samara, Saratov, Ufa, and Chelyabinsk. Nordwind Airlines will expand its route network at Pulkovo Airport. Among the carrier’s new additions is the launch of flights to Baku (Azerbaijan) and Yerevan (Armenia), as well as to the Russian cities of Kazan, Krasnodar, Rostov-on-Don, and Simferopol. In the upcoming winter season, Smartavia Airlines will continue to operate flights to Baku (Azerbaijan), opened in the summer of 2019.

Air Serbia, Brussels Airlines, and SAS will resume their traditional winter holiday flights. In addition, S7 Airlines will recommence the flights to Salzburg and Innsbruck, operated in the winter of 2019/2020.

Azur Air is planning to perform winter charter flights to Varadero (Cuba), Goa (India), Colombo (Sri Lanka), La Romana (Dominican Republic), Dubai (El Maktum, UAE), Nha Trang (Vietnam), Phuket (Thailand), Sanya (China). Nordwind has announced flights from St. Petersburg to Nha Trang (Vietnam), Bangkok, Pattaya and Phuket (Thailand) for its winter charter program. Red Wings plans to perform winter charter flights to the Turkish cities of Antalya and Istanbul.

In January-August 2019, Pulkovo Airport served 13.2 million people, which is 8.6% more than in the same period of 2018. Domestic traffic increased by 11.1% to 8 million passengers. On international routes, traffic increased by 4.9% to 5.1 million passengers.

According to the International Air Transport Association (IATA), the northern winter season begins on the date of Daylight Saving Time (DST) introduction in European Union countries, which currently always takes place on the last Sunday in October.
