Sage Gateshead selected to host VisitEngland Awards for Excellence 2015

In choosing the Sage Gateshead VisitEngland will be bringing the Awards to the North East for the first time, coinciding with an exciting year that also sees Rugby World Cup 2015 coming to Newcastle.

VisitEngland, the country’s national tourist board, has announced  that the Sage Gateshead has been chosen as the venue to host the VisitEngland Awards for Excellence 2015. The announcement was made by Penelope, Viscountess Cobham CBE, Chairman of VisitEngland last night to a packed industry audience at the North East Tourism Awards held at the Stadium of Light. Winners from the North East Tourism Awards will, along with other regional winners, have the opportunity to go forward to the national Awards for Excellence which will be held on Monday 11th May.

In choosing the Sage Gateshead VisitEngland will be bringing the Awards to the North East for the first time, coinciding with an exciting year that also sees Rugby World Cup 2015 coming to Newcastle.

Jenny McGee, VisitEngland’s Enterprise Director said “We are really looking forward to bringing the Awards to Gateshead. The Sage is a spectacular venue and together with the convention bureau staff, the NewcastleGateshead Initiative has put forward a fantastic support package that meets all our selection criteria.  We look forward to hosting a wonderful evening here.”

The VisitEngland Awards for Excellence champion best practice and raise the profile of England as a world-class destination. The 2014 Awards Ceremony was attended by over 450 representatives from the tourism industry and media together with guests from the 82 gold, silver, bronze and highly commended award winners.
