Seatrade Med closed in Marseille

The ninth edition of the Seatrade Med Cruise & Superyacht Convention featured a record-breaking number of delegates and over 140 exhibitors.

MARSEILLE – The ninth edition of the Seatrade Med Cruise & Superyacht Convention ended in Marseille, having welcomed participants through its doors from 27-29 November 2012, including a record-breaking number of delegates at the two and a half day conference.

Over 140 companies exhibited at this year’s Seatrade Med, which included the New Supplier Zone and SYRREN Business Networking, both for the first time, as well as Top Cruise travel agent training and a comprehensive conference programme.

Marseille has also played host to some highly successful social events during Seatrade Med, which included the sixth Seatrade Insider Cruise Awards, a well attended Opening Ceremony and spectacular Gala Dinner at the Marseille Provence Cruise Terminal.

“We have had exceptionally positive feedback from the exhibition floor, our delegates, speakers and valued partners. We are confident that this has been yet another great opportunity for the cruise community to engage, discuss trends and do business” Daniel Read, director, cruise portfolio, UBM.

Mary Bond, executive director of Seatrade, added “The conference finished on a high note with the participation of Dominique Vlasto, member of the European Parliament & deputy mayor of Marseille, who began with a very lively, thought provoking session on itinerary planning & shorex development. We thank the entire Marseille community for making Seatrade Med 2012 a memorable event.”

Jacques Truau, president, Marseille Provence Cruise Club, vp, Board of Surveyors, Marseille Fos Port Authority, and honorary vp, Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Marseille Provence said “On behalf of the cruise community of Marseille, we are delighted to have hosted such a successful event. We hope that all those who visited our port and city enjoyed our hospitality and that they will return soon in order to see the completion of all of the infrastructure projects that we are investing in.”

“Throughout the two and a half day exhibition the MedCruise Pavilion was a hive of activity. A large number of our 100 members participated in product presentations, meetings and networking sessions. As principal supporter we are very pleased with this event” commented MedCruise president Stavros Hatzakos.

The exhibition hall bustled right until the final minute of the last day, with Steven Hites president & director of St. Kitts Scenic Railway & member of the Caribbean Village, commenting that this edition of Seatrade Med was “the best yet.”

Hites went on to say that “this event is a key part of our budget. The show has an intimate feel and gives you direct access to the cruise line executives you need to speak with. It is a show that absolutely has to be part of your marketing plan if you are in the business.”
