Sharjah Tourism conducts another tourist guides licensing course for industry professionals

The field trips included a visit to the Heart of Sharjah, the prominent heritage tourist destination in the emirate that reflects the charm and authentic heritage of old Sharjah in its alleys and old houses.

SHARJAH – The Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority conducted a another tourist license renewal course for a group of professional tourist guides working in the Emirate. The orientation course, held from October 12 to 16, included lectures by experts and field visits to important landmarks, museums, cultural centres and tourist attractions in Sharjah.

This time the course brought together a number of industry professionals representing diverse range of nationalities, including Russia, Ukraine, Latvia, Egypt, Eritrea and China. The course, conducted by professional experts and experienced faculty staff, focused on defining the unique identity and diversity of Sharjah as a tourism destination including its history, heritage, urban and economic development.

Part of the course was held at the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI), which is a commercial hub of the Emirate and plays a key role in working with the business community in the emirate and international investors to boost trade and economic development.   

The field trips included a visit to the Heart of Sharjah, the prominent heritage tourist destination in the emirate that reflects the charm and authentic heritage of old Sharjah in its alleys and old houses. It area includes traditional souks, museums, art galleries and cultural centres which the new guides were captivated by.

The training course wouldn’t have been complete without visiting Sharjah’s renowned museums. Which, included the Sharjah Aquarium and Maritime Museum. The Sharjah Archaeology Museum which is home to rare archeological objects and treasures discovered in the emirate since the start of archaeological excavations in 1972. As well as these the participants also spent time at the Sharjah Desert Park, which includes four segments – Sharjah Natural History Museum, Botanical Museum, Arabian Wildlife Centre and Children’s Farm.    

The Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority has been regularly conducting training and orientation courses for industry professionals in order to provide world-class services and expertise in the emirate. Aspiring tourist guides are given necessary training and orientation and are updated on the latest trends and developments in the tourism sector before they are granted a license to work as tourist guides in the emirate.
