Cheetah Mobile releases list of Top10 travel apps and tips to keep smartphones secure and junk free.

SAN FRANCISCO – With summer travel quickly approaching, Cheetah Mobile Inc. announces the Top 10 Travel Apps that are least likely to slow device performance, and tips to keep phones running smoothly all summer long. Cheetah Mobile surveyed the most popular travel apps and ranked them based on the amount of junk or cache files they leave behind in a person’s phone, revealing that not all travel apps are created equal with Travelocity, Orbitz and Yelp as top performers.

These Top 10 Travel Apps, along with the Clean Master app, can keep smartphones secure and junk free, helping everyone go the distance this summer. Some travel apps can leave behind more megabytes of junk than the size of the app itself. Junk files take up memory and slow phone performance.

The list below detail apps that aren’t heavy packers, keeping travel light:

“Across the U.S. people are preparing for their summer vacations, and chances are they’ll be using travel apps when booking hotels, checking flight status or to find a place to eat while visiting a new city,” said Ruimin Huang, product manager, Cheetah Mobile. “Being aware of which apps are best for a phone can make a big difference, giving a person more storage room for vacation pictures, longer battery life and faster data processing to play games and connect with friends on social media.”

Clearing junk files and stored data regularly frees up phone memory and deletes any vulnerable personal information. The free Clean Master app for Android does all this, improving device performance by cleaning cache files, optimizing device memory and providing complete protection against viruses, Trojans and malware.

To ensure smartphone users everywhere are safe and can get the most out of their phones this travel season, Clean Master offers the following tips to help ensure device performance.

  • Disable automatic time zones/time and set the clock manually. This stops a device from constantly requesting location/time data.
  • Reduce the push frequency of email, weather and social media apps.
  • When finished with an app, manually shut it down instead of pushing it to run in the background.
  • Disable giving location based information to apps unless necessary (i.e. maps, dating, etc.)
  • Turn off GPS when it’s not needed.
  • Use Clean Master’s ranked Top 10 Travel Apps that leave behind less junk than other travel apps.
