Travellerspoint launches new take on trip planning

Travellerspoint.com has created a new Travel Planner tool to help travellers organise their searches. This new feature allows travellers to save web pages and organise them into a trip plan.

Travellers around the world are increasingly planning trips online. A study published by Think with Google (2011) found that the average traveller visits 22 travel-related sites during 9.5 search sessions before booking a place to stay.

In recognition of this, the travel site Travellerspoint.com has created a new Travel Planner tool to help travellers organise their searches. This new feature allows travellers to save web pages and organise them into a trip plan.

As co-founder Peter Daams explained, “we noticed anecdotally that a lot of travellers would use their browser’s bookmarks bar to plan trips. Organising webpages they find into folders for future reading or sharing around. We figured this process certainly could be improved and bookmarks could be organised in a far better way. So our tool allows people to bookmark any travel content into a planner and have all the bookmarks organised by the stops they are related to. As stops are being added, a map is also created at the same time providing a fun way to view your journey”.

The tool also offers a range of great complementary services that can help users solve many of their most common issues when planning a trip. As Peter said, “We also started integrating some other great services into the planning tool like exchange rates, weather and transport choices between locations. There’s still plenty to be added to the tool, but it already is unique in what it does and can provide immediate value to people researching their vacations”.

Collaboration is another great reason for creating this tool: “The other thing we wanted to tackle was the need for people to collaborate on trips; perhaps a couple of travellers going on a round the world adventure together. Rather than each of them setting up their own planner, we wanted them to be able to work on the same one together, building on each others’ plans”, Peter said.

The final result is a convenient grouping of all information gathered and a map plotting the upcoming journey. Peter said, “At the end of the process, you end up with an attractive map of your travels and stats to go with your trip; for example showing how many countries you’ve visited or how many kilometres you’ve travelled.”

Travellerspoint.com was founded in 2002 and is one of the web’s largest and most active travel communities with over half a million members worldwide.
