Overseas tourism to Florida was impressive in 2004, according to newly released data from VISIT FLORIDA, the state`s official source for travel planning. In 2004, Florida hosted 4.4 million overseas visitors. This reflects an increase of 5.5 percent over 2003, or an increase of 230,000 overseas visitors.

This is great news for Florida and comes as no surprise, said Governor Bush. Not only did we host a record 79.8 million visitors in 2004, research shows that Florida is receiving higher numbers of overseas visitors when compared to 2002 and 2003. We are pleased that the Sunshine State remains one of the world`s most popular destinations with both domestic and overseas travelers, added Bush.

International visitors are important to our state`s economy, said Bud Nocera, President and Chief Executive Officer of VISIT FLORIDA. Overseas visitors to Florida spend an average of $2,781 per trip. While the immediate effects of this spending provide jobs and generate sales in the retail sector, it also generates state and local tax revenue for the benefit of all Floridians.
