Wizz Air reconnects Budapest Airport to Varna

Balazs Bogats, Head of Airline Development, Budapest Airport, welcomes the crew of Wizz Air’s inaugural flight to Varna. The Hungarian gateway’s now traditional running shoe-shaped cake, representing the upcoming Budapest Airport Runway Run on Saturday 3 September, marks the occasion.

Budapest’s home-based airline has already announced 11 new routes for 2016, with Varna becoming the low-cost carrier’s 50th destination from the Hungarian capital city airport.

Budapest Airport has celebrated its resumption of seasonal services with Varna, the largest city and seaside resort on the Bulgarian Black Sea Coast. Having operated the route previously in 2013, Wizz Air returns with a twice-weekly flight to Bulgaria’s main tourist destination following a significant growth in Bulgarian market popularity.

Budapest’s home-based airline has already announced 11 new routes for 2016, with Varna becoming the low-cost carrier’s 50th destination from the Hungarian capital city airport. Facing no direct competition on the airport pair, Wizz Air’s new link offers an ideal alternative to its existing service to Bourgas, and having witnessed the launch of Bulgaria Air’s operation to Sofia in June, Budapest now serves Bulgaria’s three largest airports.

Commenting on the launch, Balazs Bogats, Head of Airline Development, Budapest Airport said: “This year we will welcome Wizz Air’s 18 millionth passenger since the airline joined us here at Budapest in 2004. Celebrating the launch of our home-based carrier’s 50th destination is testament to our continued commitment with Wizz Air to strengthen tourism in Hungary and expand the choice of attractive destinations for our customers.”
