Duisburg, Germany — From August 23 to 27, the Canoe World Championship will take place in Duisburg, Germany. This year, the tour operator Schauinsland-Reisen is stepping up its involvement in sports by supporting the event as a Co-Sponsor. This marks the sixth occurrence of the championship at the Duisburg Regatta Course. The travel agency’s increased participation in sports underscores its dedication to the sporting community. “As a Duisburg-based traditional company, it’s a special delight for us to have the privilege of supporting such an event at our company’s location,” says Andreas Rüttgers, Tourism Chief at Schauinsland-Reisen. “Sports, alongside its competitive spirit, always carries a unifying element and represents values like fairness and tolerance—values that resonate with us as a family-owned business.”

The Canoe World Championship is an opportunity for athletes to qualify for the 2024 Olympics in Paris. Among the participants is Sebastian Brendel, also known as Germany’s “undisputed king of the paddle.” The Canoe World Championship is often referred to as the “Wimbledon” of canoeing, expecting up to 4,000 spectators daily at the Duisburg Regatta Course. Athletes from 92 nations will compete for a total of 42 world championship titles. The first medals will be awarded starting from Friday, August 25. Parts of the championship will be broadcast live on ARD and ZDF from Friday to Sunday. As a Co-Sponsor of the event, schauinsland-reisen’s branding will be visible on numerous banners and promotional areas in the starting and finishing areas at the Regatta Course, as well as on a video wall behind the spectator stands.

Within the tournament’s framework, the Para-Canoe World Championship will also take place, welcoming athletes with disabilities. This is the third time the championship is being held in Duisburg. Participants have the chance to qualify for the Paralympics in Paris.
