With a focus on new offerings in Kenya and Tanzania geared toward families, the award-winning tour operator presents exciting safari experiences tailored to all age groups.

NEW YORK, NY – Extraordinary Journeys, the award-winning tour operator and safari specialist, unveil a diverse array of new family-forward safari experiences tailored for all age groups across its African destinations. While Extraordinary Journeys recommends South Africa, Kenya, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Zambia, and Botswana as wonderful family safari destinations, as of recently, Kenya and Tanzania have become more accessible to families thanks to new and improved accommodations and experiences by top safari camps and lodges that are tailored to little ones. Extraordinary Journeys has the insider intelligence and expertise to know precisely which camps are best for the type of family adventure travelers want to experience.

“Taking your children on safari is an unparalleled opportunity to ignite their curiosity, foster a deep appreciation for nature, and create memories as a family that will last a lifetime,” says Elizabeth Gordon, Co-Founder and CEO of Extraordinary Journeys. “We believe that seeing wildlife first hand in this way and the captivating landscapes of Africa up close cultivates empathy and a sense of wonder that can only be sparked by these authentic encounters.”

Extraordinary Journeys are experts in selecting the ideal camps and lodges to suit any age group, need, or preference. From navigating age minimums (some safari camps only allow kids 6+ or 12+ years old, while others openly embrace kids of all ages and feature specialized activities for even the youngest of travelers) to choosing the best-suited destinations or accommodation options, Extraordinary Journeys is equipped to help tailor your journey accordingly. Many Extraordinary Journeys planners are parents themselves, have traveled to Africa with their families, and offer first-person knowledge from navigating the nuances of traveling with children.

In Tanzania and Kenya specifically, Extraordinary Journeys’ family itineraries feature new safari sites that have moved on from the old standard of tents with extra beds and now give families exclusive use of their own “camp within the camp.” The private sites sport amenities such as private guides, dining spaces, fire pits, and a private or additional shared pool, giving families a larger area to spread out, breathe, and connect. Whether roasting marshmallows and stargazing with the kids or enjoying a drink on the deck while the kids are safely asleep nearby, these new luxury suites offer families increased options and ease.

In addition to game drives, family safaris offer many other experiences for children to enjoy including bush walks to look for tracks, horseback or camel riding, local village visits, cooking with the camp’s Chef, hanging out near a waterhole (where the wildlife comes to you!), helicopter safaris, young explorers programs, and more.

Kenya and Tanzania adventures include:

  • Tanzania:

Asilia Africa has launched two new “Retreats” at both Sayari and Namiri Plains camps (Serengeti, Tanzania), delivering an elevated level of exclusivity and flexibility, creating a personal space for families. Complete with a private guide and vehicle, host, and dedicated chef, the Retreats offer a unique safari experience. Each Retreat has two en-suite bedrooms, a lounge and dining area, and a sprawling veranda leading to a private firepit.

  • Kenya

– Sanctuary Retreats: Sanctuary Tambarare offers a new two-bedroom villa (Ol Pejeta Conservancy, Kenya) with a contemporary style and characterful interiors. Guests will enjoy the indoor and outdoor lounge and dining area, bar, private deck, and boma.
– Offbeat Safaris: Offbeat Ndoto, with just four tents in the exclusive Mara North Conservancy, recently unveiled a new two-bedroom suite, perfect for families. The spacious accommodations boast luxurious accommodations, including two bedrooms with shower rooms, a private sitting/dining room, and an outside dining area on the deck, which offers incredible views of the surrounding environment. Ndoto is the biggest and best tent Offbeat has created, and it comes with a private guide and vehicle. Wi-Fi, power, a private bar, and a fireplace make this the ideal space to unwind after a day on safari.
– Mara Plains has recently reimagined its existing 2-bedroom Jahazi Suite to accommodate families with three children in their two-bedroom suite (five pax in total), a rarity in the safari world. Great Plains is blazing trails in accommodating families of different shapes and sizes.
