A full-page ad in USA Today valued at $73,000, a VIP private tour at Universal Orlando for $1,500, Samsonite luggage retailed at $1,000, and a three-night stay at the Ritz-Carlton Huntington Beach with a visit to the Getty Museum costing $1,350 are among the more than 100 prizes included in the silent auction at the Hospitality Sales & Marketing Association International (HSMAI) Awards Dinner in New York on January 28, 2003.

An impressive list of prizes running the gamut from ads to creative service, hotel and resort stays, attractions and travel products make up the more than 100 prizes that will be auctioned to raise monies for the HSMAI Scholarship Fund.

In 2002, we were able to award three major scholarships. With the increased donations from members and friends of HSMAI, we hope to exceed our goal of $25,000, states Robert A. Gilbert, CHME, CHA, president and CEO of HSMAI.

The black-tie gala event, which celebrates its 13th year, will be held at the New York Marriott Marquis. The evening is a celebration of marketing excellence, with awards handed out in the areas of advertising, public relations and website marketing.

Lifetime achievement awards will also be presented to Bunny Grossinger, recipient of the Winthrop W. Grice Award for public relations, and Peter Warren, CHME, who will be recognized with advertising’s Albert E. Koehl Award.

Additionally, eMarketer of the Year, sponsored by TravelCLICK, will be presented, as well as the HSMAI Award For Top Sales Achievement to Vicki Freed, senior vice president of sales and marketing, Carnival Cruise Lines.
