Long-haul connections increase from Cologne Bonn

Eurowings already connects Cologne Bonn with direct scheduled services to the US (Miami), Thailand (Bangkok and Phuket), Dominican Republic (Puerto Plata and Punta Cana), Mexico (Cancun), and Mauritius.

Cologne Bonn Airport has further expanded its low-cost long-haul network with the departure of Eurowings’ inaugural flight to Havana. Additionally, the Lufthansa group carrier has also announced the launch of two more long-haul links as of next summer – a twice-weekly service to Windhoek (Namibia), and the currently chartered service to Montego Bay (Jamaica), will be converted to a scheduled operation flying twice-weekly.

Eurowings’ new weekly service to Cuba’s capital city will utilise the airline’s 310-seat A330-200s on the 8,011-kilometre sector, becoming the German hub’s eighth Caribbean link. Commencing Cologne Bonn’s second connection to Cuba, the carrier’s new link joins its existing Varadero service, increasing the airport’s weekly Cuban capacity by 33%.

Commenting on the launch, Michael Garvens, Chairman of the Management Board, Cologne Bonn said: “Varadero was our first low-cost long-haul service last year. Yesterday, we welcomed the 14th in our flight schedule – a second link to Cuba.” He added: “We are delighted that Eurowings is continuing to expand its portfolio at our airport. The new route to Havana, and now a link to Southern Africa, will give long-distance travelers more reasons to use our airport."

In addition to these routes, Eurowings already connects Cologne Bonn with direct scheduled services to the US (Miami), Thailand (Bangkok and Phuket), Dominican Republic (Puerto Plata and Punta Cana), Mexico (Cancun), and Mauritius. In addition, the airline operates charter flights to the Dominican Republic (La Romana and Santo Domingo), Barbados (Bridgetown) and Oman (Salalah). During the 2017 peak season, the carrier will launch three further links to the US – Orlando, Seattle-Tacoma and Las Vegas – seeing the airline serve 18 low-cost long-haul destinations from the airport.
