The American Hotel & Lodging Educational Foundation (AH&LEF), the not-for-profit affiliate of the American Hotel & Lodging Association (AH&LA), is requesting applications from hospitality students for the IAHI Scholarship Program. The IAHI – an international association of owners and operators who franchise InterContinental Hotels Groups – is sponsoring this national academic competition for the second consecutive year.
The scholarship contest is open to all part- and full-time undergraduate and graduate students employed at an IAHI member property. To also qualify, the applicants must be enrolled in an accredited college or university, vocational/technical school, or training program with a declared major in hotel, food and beverage, or some other hospitality- related field during the 2003-2004 academic year.
Once again, we`re extremely proud to oversee a scholarship program that provides financial support to hotel employees who have a desire to improve their performance and knowledge of their profession, said AH&LEF CEO and AH&LA President/CEO Joseph A. McInerney, CHA.
Additionally, awarding of the scholarships depend on two requirements – financial need and academic performance. In total, the program awards 10 hospitality students with $1,500 each as well as an additional $5,000 to one student enrolled at the Kemmons Wilson School of Hospitality and Resort Management at the University of Memphis.
The IAHI Scholarship Program was established more than 15 years ago to provide assistance to benefit both employees and the industry, said IAHI 2002-2003 Chairman Jay Fishman. One of its primary goals is to promote the hospitality industry through educating our employees.
