ERA Director General recognised with Air Transport Award

Montserrat Barriga, Director General of the European Regions Airline Association (ERA) has been honoured at this year’s Air Transport Awards. As the leader of a strong 220+ member association, Barriga proudly dedicates her ATN Individual Award to the ERA team and her fellow women in aviation.

On Sunday 19 March at the 2023 Air Transport Awards, and as part of a distinguished ceremony held in Montreal, Canada, Montserrat Barriga was awarded the ATN Individual Award, recognising her contribution to the aviation industry.

Having led the association since 2017, Barriga is responsible for the delivery and implementation of ERA’s strategy as well as the advocacy work of the association on policy and technical matters. Under her leadership, ERA is highlighting the aviation sector’s vital contribution to Europe’s future economic prosperity, particularly in the regions of Europe.

The impact of COVID-19 over the past years has been unprecedented, but through commitment and dedication, ERA has continued to represent its members’ interests, encouraging and developing long-term and sustainable growth for the sector and industry. With more than 220 companies now in membership, the highest ever, including 58 European airlines, the united strength of ERA’s members is unparalleled.

Other 2023 Air Transport Award winners include Salvatore Sciacchitano, President, ICAO; Jozsef Varadi, CEO, Wizz Air; Mehmet Nane, CEO, Pegasus; and Lt. Col. Egbert Field, Director General, Guyana Civil Aviation Authority, together with corporate awards presented to SkyTeam, Istanbul Airport and The International Air Cargo Association (TIACA).

Dedicating her prize to the ERA team for their commitment and passion and also to all women in aviation, ERA’s Director General said: “Our industry needs to continue to strive for a greater female presence, to encourage girls and women from schools and universities into all aspects of aviation, to ensure our future growth and prosperity. I hope this award will inspire younger females to develop a career in an industry that would bring them lots of joy and fulfilment.”
