The International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (IAAPA) announced the cancellation of Asian Amusement Expo (AAE) 2003, on the recommendation of its AAE Advisory Committee, as the current Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) outbreak continues to demonstrate how much is still unknown about controlling and combating the disease.

IAAPA`s Executive/Finance Committee made this difficult decision after carefully considering how the health and safety aspects of the SARS issue would affect the organizing of AAE 2003, both pre-event and on-site. The show had been scheduled to take place July 16-18 at the Singapore International Convention and Exhibition Center.

Due to the many continuing unknowns surrounding the ongoing SARS outbreak, we have come to the conclusion that the foreseeable health situation, in the affected areas of Asia, does not allow AAE 2003 to be planned and held under acceptable conditions, stated J. Clark Robinson, IAAPA President. While not an easy decision, we feel that it`s the right one for our exhibitors and attendees. This result is especially disappointing in light of the exciting and enhanced educational program which we have developed for this year`s event, Robinson further noted. Such disappointment, however, will only increase our dedication and our ability to put on the best ever AAE in 2004. In addition, of course, this industry expertise and much more will be on display at IAAPA Orlando 2003 in November.
