MCINTL congratulates Barcelona, Berlin & Vienna

In the recently released annual rankings of the International Congress & Convention Association (ICCA), Vienna tied with Paris for first place since both destinations hosted 139 association events in 2008. Following the two immediately thereafter is Barcelona, holding the number 3 spot. Having hosted 136 association events in 2008, Barcelona moved up from the last year’s number 5 ranking. Singapore came in at fourth place. Finally, rounding out the top 5 is Berlin which hosted 100 association events. MCIntl proudly congratulates Barcelona, Berlin and Vienna, and their convention bureaus which provide tremendous support for North American associations and meeting planners.

Marketing Challenges International (MCIntl) is the North American marketing and sales agency for 3 of the top 5 destinations in the world: Barcelona, Berlin and Vienna. Without a doubt, the North American market has played a major role in the destinations achieving world ranking.

ICCA’s annual rankings convey the strength of a destination’s draw for international events and are based on the number of events a destination hosted in one year’s time. In order to determine the rankings, ICCA Data researchers had to identify qualifying events. Only international association events that take place on a regular basis and rotate a minimum of three countries may qualify to be used to determine the rankings. For the recently released rankings, the researchers identified 7,475 events which took place in 2008.

Never resting on their laurels, Barcelona, Berlin and Vienna are dedicated to keeping their rankings with an aggressive and very targeted approach to the North American markets, particularly with the Association market.
