VisitBritain has published a new marketing guide for British tourism businesses, to introduce the many different low-cost and ‘no cost’ ways  it can help them to reach potential British and international visitors.

Identifying simple and direct ‘routes to market’, the guide is aimed particularly at smaller and medium-sized businesses with limited marketing resources, which may be unaware of the help that VisitBritain can give them.

Louise Bryce, VisitBritain’s Head of Industry Relations, says:

“Getting people to beat a path to your door is never easy, especially with thousands of different companies competing for their custom. And when resources are stretched, it’s harder than ever. VisitBritain is funded by Government to help UK tourism businesses reach visitors and vice versa. Thousands of businesses – both small and large – already work with us, but we know there are many more hidden treasures out there that deserve to be put on the map.”

VisitBritain spends over £50 million each year on promoting Britain to the rest of the world, and England within Britain. Its brochures, guides, marketing campaigns, press coverage and websites are seen by millions of potential visitors, and it works with hundreds of travel agents, tour operators and travel media around the world to help bring more people to Britain.

“It’s impossible for us to have direct relationships ourselves with every single British tourism business, but there is a great infrastructure in place, thanks to Britain’s excellent network of regional tourism bodies and destination management companies,” explains Louise Bryce. “Our new guide suggests three simple steps that every business should take, however small its budget, to ensure that information about its products – be they accommodation, attractions or events – reaches potential visitors.”

Examples of the low cost and ‘no cost’ marketing opportunities that VisitBritain offers tourism businesses include:
