Angola-Namibia tourism cooperation agreement signed

The Namibian and Angolan governments have signed an agreement on jointly developing and promoting tourism activities between the two countries, visiting Namibian Minister of Tourism Netumbo Nandi Ndaitwah said on Thursday.

The agreement which was signed on Wednesday in the Angolan capital Luanda, he said, is aimed at expanding tourism sector in both countries by way of promoting cross-border tourism activities.

"It (the agreement) will help pave the way for establishing a legal basis for strengthening institutional and entrepreneurial cooperation in tourism sector between the two countries," he added.

Under the agreement, both Namibia and Angola will simplify migration procedures to open up a joint tourism market, offer defense and security for tourists visiting the two countries, harmonize the classification and standardization tourism and share tourism information, among others.

According to the Namibian official, the agreement shows the unity and determination of the two countries to develop cross-border tourism, which he considered as "strategic" for boosting the two countries’ respective national economies.

So far, the two countries have created a mechanism to guarantee free circulation of tourists in both countries, he said.
