Aena’s airports in Spain registered more than 26.6 million passengers in October

This is 11% higher than last year and 7.8% better than in 2019.

The airports of the Aena network in Spain closed the tenth month of 2023 with an all-time record number of passengers in October: 26,616,109, up 11% on the same month in 2022 and 7.8% more than in 2019, before the pandemic, the previous record year.

In October 2023, Aena managed 219,482 aircraft movements, 5.1% more than in 2022; and 101,246 tonnes of freight were transported, up 11.9% on last year. Of the total number of passengers registered in October, 26,543,953 were commercial passengers. 18,350,305 travelled on international flights, 13.1% more than in October 2022, while 8,193,648 travelled on domestic flights, up 6.5% on last year.

From January to October 2023, 243,263,873 passengers passed through Aena airports (16.9% and 1.9% more than in 2022 and 2019, respectively), 2,053,583 aircraft movements were recorded (+8.3% compared to 2022) and 877,574 tonnes of freight were transported, up 6.3% on the same period of 2022.

Passengers

Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport recorded the highest number of passengers in the tenth month of the year with 5,384,937, up 12% compared to October last year. It is followed by Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat, with 4,587,103 (+9.4% compared to 2022); Palma de Mallorca, with 3,286,052 (+7.3%); Málaga-Costa del Sol, with 2,215,936 (+17.1%); Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández, with 1,586,073 (+17%); Gran Canaria, with 1,223,397 (+7.7%) and Tenerife Sur, with 1,058,521 (+9.7%).

Operations

In terms of operations, the airport with the most movements in October was Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas, with a total of 34,551 (+8.2% versus 2022), followed by Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat, with 29,068 flights (+6.2%); Palma de Mallorca, with 24,222 (+2.7%); Málaga-Costa del Sol, with 15,585 (+10.5%); Gran Canaria, with 11,393 (+6.9%) and Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández, with 9,939 landings and take-offs (+9.9%).
