easyJet has celebrated flying 40 million passengers to and from Glasgow Airport by surprising a lucky couple with free flights.

easyJet has celebrated carrying over 40 million passengers to and from Glasgow Airport. To mark the occasion the airline surprised the Bishop family flying from Glasgow to Malaga, with free easyJet return flights.

The milestone celebration comes after new routes were launched from Glasgow Airport to popular beach and city destinations, such as Lisbon and Porto in Portugal, Agadir in Morocco, Belfast City in Northern Ireland, and Chania in Greece.

Last month easyJet also announced a new winter route from Glasgow to Southampton with twice weekly departures on Thursdays and Saturdays, offering customers in Glasgow even greater connectivity across the UK for leisure and business travellers alike.

easyJet now serves customers in Glasgow and the surrounding region with convenient connections to 29 airports across the UK, Europe and the Middle East, providing direct access to a range of city and beach destinations including Porto and Lisbon in Portugal, Dalaman in Turkey, the Greek Islands, Amsterdam, Paris, and Belfast.

The airline will operate its largest ever flying programme from Scotland this summer and is set to operate 6.3 million seats to and from Scotland, around a million more than summer 2019.

Ali Gayward, easyJet’s UK Country Manager said: “We are so proud to mark a key milestone for us as today as we celebrate flying 40 million passengers from Glasgow Airport. Our first flight from Glasgow to London Luton took off for the first time 27 years ago and since then we’ve been committed to Glasgow and to providing great value fares and convenient connections for our customers in Scotland, whether they’re travelling for business or leisure.

“And of course, I have to thank our fantastic customers for their loyalty and support and we remain excited about the future at Glasgow.”

Ronald Leitch, Operations Director at Glasgow Airport, said: “We are proud and honored easyJet has chosen to mark this significant milestone here at Glasgow, back where the relationship between airport and airline began.

“From the inaugural Glasgow London Luton flight nearly 27 years ago, easyJet has grown to not only become one of Scotland’s most popular airlines but also one of Europe’s biggest carriers.

“With the recent introduction of exciting new routes to Porto and Lisbon, easyJet continues to offer our passengers a fantastic range of destinations across the UK and Europe. We look forward to celebrating a half century next.”

On 10 November 1995 easyJet’s first ever flight to Glasgow took off from London Luton and since then the airline has remained committed to the airport by maintaining a continuous operation. Today, easyJet is the largest airline in Scotland, and since launching operations nearly 30 years ago has flown over 105 million customers to and from the four Scottish airports it serves and offers 70 routes across Europe, North Africa and the Middle East.
