Greece and China came closer yesterday 26 November 2007 when the Greek Minister of Tourism Development, Mr. Aris Spiliotopoulos met with Air China’s President Mr. Li Jia Xiang in Beijing at the headquarters of the carrier on the occasion of the Greek Minister’s visit to China.

“When Air China took the decision to operate a direct China – Greece flight, this came after considering political criteria and not commercial. Here we agreed not only to strengthen the relations of the two countries but also those of the Greek Ministry of Tourism with Air China,” Mr. Spiliotopoulos said after the meeting.

“Our aim is the flight to be fully booked,” stressed the Minister adding “it is of great importance the number of Chinese visitors to Greece to be increased. And this can be achieved if we promote Greece more. Air China’s President said the carrier will contribute to this promotion.”

The two men had also the opportunity to discuss ways of better promoting Greece to Chinese travelers. “There are many things that we can do and we will make them reality,” said Mr. Spiliotopoulos.

“One of these is Greece’s promotion to the credit card that is going to be issued for the Olympics Games 2008. We have every reason to believe that this card will promote Greece even more.”

The new direct flight will start tomorrow November 28th 2007. The new route will connect the capitals of the two countries: Greece and China.
