Winning against solid competition, the consortium of ARINC Incorporated and THALES has been awarded a $75 million contract for IT, security, and telecommunication systems at the New Doha International Airport (NDIA), currently under construction in the capital of Qatar.

One of the world’s most ambitious airport projects, Doha’s first phase is scheduled to open in early 2009 with a capacity for 12 million passengers yearly. Planned expansions will raise that to 24 million passengers by 2015.

ARINC will equip the airport with a comprehensive suite of advanced passenger processing systems and related technologies, including ARINC iMUSETM Common Use Terminal Equipment (CUTE) at more than 100 check-in counters and departure gates. ARINC will also build the information exchange backbone for data flowing across the new airport’s applications, systems, users, and facilities. THALES will implement the safety and security system, the Local Area Network (LAN) and the Network Management. Both companies will jointly provide extensive project design and management.

Mr. Abdulaziz Mohamed Al Noaimi, Chairman and Managing Director, New Doha International Airport Steering Committee, said “The NDIA steering committee has chosen the ARINC-THALES consortium for their well proven ability to fulfill complex requirements in numbers of systems, density of management, and short deployment schedules. The Committee is confident the project will be completed by the consortium on time, on budget, and at the high quality level required.”

Mr. Alain Delecroix, Vice President, Security Systems for THALES`s Security Solutions & Services activities, stated: “We are very pleased that our cooperation with ARINC has been a successful winning team. THALES is committed to implementing this strategic project for the NDIA in a field where security is a vital issue. This new success confirms also our strong position as a long-established and respected player in the aeronautical market.”

“When it opens in 2009, NDIA will feature advanced airport operating systems in all areas of security, safety, aviation technology, passenger convenience and operational efficiency,” said Ed Montgomery, ARINC Vice President for Europe, Middle East and Africa. “ARINC is delighted to be contributing to the NDIA project, to deploy its know-how and to exhibit the skills of its 3200 staff in an airport expected to be one of the most advanced in the world.”

Mr. Montgomery added “Following our recent success in winning the airport Systems Integration projects in Dubai, UAE and Cairo, Egypt, the selection of ARINC to be the system integrator for the New Doha International Airport is a confirmation of our strategy to be the leading IT systems integrator to the air transport industry.”

THALES is an international electronics and systems group serving defense, aerospace and security markets worldwide, supported by a comprehensive services offering.
