Euro 2020 – Travel Guide

In fact, 12 cities in 12 different European countries will be used for the prestigious tournament, meaning that careful planning will be required for those hoping to go to some of the matches.

Euro 2020 will be the 16th edition of the UEFA European Football Championship which takes place every four years, and it will be the first time the event has taken place across several different nations. In fact, 12 cities in 12 different European countries will be used for the prestigious tournament, meaning that careful planning will be required for those hoping to go to some of the matches. Here is a rundown of all the locations which are being used for the games, so that supporters can consider their travel arrangements well in advance.

The upcoming major European tournament is still in its qualifying stages, but the finals have already been planned for well in advance. Euro 2020 marks the tournament’s 60th birthday, which is why UEFA wanted to make it extra special by hosting it across the continent. Michel Platini referred to it as a romantic one-off event to celebrate its long history.

The fact that the games will be taking place over a number of different countries means that travelling between them could be awkward. Therefore, fans will need to try and stay somewhere with access to a few cities on the list. The 12 cities being used for the competition are London, Dublin, Glasgow, Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Munich, Bilbao, Rome, Budapest, Bucharest, Saint Petersburg, and Baku.

Wembley Stadium in London will host the semi-finals and final for the second time in its history, with the first time being during Euro 1996 which took place in the UK. As it stands, France, England, Spain, and Belgium are all favoured by bookies to make it to the latter stages of the tournament. These teams certainly have a good chance of playing at Wembley, and sports betting sites are already offering odds on the winner. It would be wise for bettors to act early, as the odds are likely to shorten as the tournament progresses.

The best way to approach Euro 2020 could be to stay in London and book tickets for the semi-final or final. From there, it is easy to fly to the Aviva Stadium in Dublin, Hampden Park in Glasgow, the Johan Cruyff Arena in Amsterdam, and San Mames in Bilbao. Another prime spot to stay could be in Munich, which has easy access to a number of the other locations being used. From the German city, getting to the Stadio Olimpico in Rome, the Puskas Arena in Budapest, and the Arena Nationala in Bucharest is a matter of a few short flights.

There will be a clearer picture of where the games will be played when qualification for the tournament has finished. This will be finalised by March 2020. While it is wise to make some travel plans prior to this, travellers could make some later arrangements based on where their country is playing in the group stages. Euro 2020 is set to be a special event, and perhaps the biggest in the competition’s history. For sports travellers, this is not one to be missed.
