Too stressed to travel? Take an adventure indoors as the pandemic rages on

Fortunately, there are many ways to entertain yourself and explore new horizons without leaving the house.

With the Covid pandemic stubbornly hanging on as new variants are causing new fears, people are often reluctant to leave their homes and spend time in public, especially during winter.  Even if places are open, between inclement weather and the risk of illness, it often seems safer to just stay home. Fortunately, there are many ways to entertain yourself and explore new horizons without leaving the house.

Take online courses
When people are confined to their homes, they will inevitably spend lots of time online. However, many are seeking more enriching alternatives to social media or watching mindless videos on YouTube or TikTok. There are now many ways to learn new topics, often at a very low cost or even for free. There are thousands of courses where you can acquire new skills or enhance existing abilities. Some examples include learning new languages, coding and software, musical instruments, and much more. You can even find free courses offered by top universities.

Connect virtually
When it's difficult or stressful to travel, you can still connect with your friends and family using tools such as Skype and Zoom. You can plan online parties, connect with relatives you haven't seen in a while, or catch up with friends from college. You can also find new communities and friends with whom you can talk with these tools. For example, if you want to turn your reading or online courses into a more social activity, find or start a book club or a group that's studying a certain topic. It's also possible to meet your new friends via forums or social media sites and then arrange video chats.

Learn new recipes and cooking styles
When you spend most of your time indoors, you may miss the pleasure of dining out. While you still have the option of ordering takeout, you also have a chance to do more cooking and meal planning. It provides an opportunity to get creative, learn new recipes and hone your cooking skills. If you don't want to leave the house to go shopping, you can get your ingredients delivered by Amazon or another meal service. Find recipes for a type of cuisine you're curious about. Learn to make bread or bake pies.

Find adventure in books
Reading a book is a simple way to escape mundane reality and find new adventures.  More than TV or most things you can do on your phone or computer, books offer the chance to exercise your mind as well as your emotions. Both fiction and nonfiction let readers vicariously explore different places and times and meet a wide assortment of characters, real and imaginary. Even voracious readers can find books in new genres or rediscover old favorites. There are many quality online booksellers, such as BulkBooks, that offer books for every taste.

People are exploring a variety of indoor activities
As people get accustomed to periodic and long-term lockdowns, they are seeking ways to make the most of this time. Fortunately, modern technology allows for many creative and enriching projects that can be pursued from home. Many communication channels are available. Many are also rediscovering traditional pleasures such as cooking and reading.
