What to look for in a beach tent

These are just a few considerations to take into account when choosing a beach tent. Hopefully, some of the advice will help you to find the right tent for your needs!

Over the past year and a half or so, travel has been off the cards for many of us. The coronavirus and Covid-19 pandemic saw governments around the world implement travel restrictions, encouraging us to stay home wherever possible. Of course, this means that now vaccines are being rolled out around the world, and now life appears to be returning to normal, many of us are rearing and ready to get away on a summer break. Now, if you’re heading to a seaside town or beach, you may find that you need to invest in a few essentials to make the most of your time away. A beach tent could well fall within that list. Here are a few different factors that you should take into consideration when choosing the best beach tent to suit your needs and requirements.

Size
First, you should consider what size beach tent you need. This will help you to whittle down your options. If it’s just you and a partner or friend, you may only require a small tent. However, if you're heading away with children and maybe a dog, you’re going to need something a little larger. Beach tents are available in sizes from two-person tents to family-sized beach tents. If you’re simply looking for a beach tent for a baby or infant, there are also mini beach tents available that are small, convenient and that allow your little one to move around and play inside.

UV Protection
Once you know how big your beach tent needs to be, you should consider UV protection. If you’re on a beach, chances are, you’re going to be spending hours on end out in the sun. Even if the weather isn’t great, you’re still going to be exposed to UV rays. Nowadays, the majority of beach tents will offer UPF protection of 50 or higher. This will make sure that you and other people using the tent are safe from the sun. When shopping, actively seek out a UV beach tent, as this will offer some protection against the sun’s rays. Remember that you do still need to use sunscreen too!

Stability
Wind can pose a problem when using a beach tent, blowing your tent around. You don’t want to find yourself constantly putting your tent back up, so make sure you choose an option that comes with pockets that you can fill with sand to keep your beach shelter stable. Alternatively, you may want to choose an option with pegs.

Ease
Some beach tents are easier to put up than others. Like normal tents, there are pop up tents available for those of us who don’t want to spend too long setting the beach tent up. These won’t require assembly and are easy to put up and down.

Portability
If possible, try to choose a beach tent that is lightweight, has handles, and is portable. This will make taking your beach tent along with you a much easier experience.

These are just a few considerations to take into account when choosing a beach tent. Hopefully, some of the advice will help you to find the right tent for your needs!
