World series of poker traveling tips 2023

Here are some traveling tips to help you get the best out of your WSOP trip.

Finally resuming its original schedule, the World Series of Poker tournament is set to take place between May 30 and July 18 this year. The WSOP released a preliminary schedule in late 2022, featuring 12 main events, including Colossus, Millionaire Maker, and Monster Stack. The full and final schedule, which includes the entry fees and events lineup, should be out soon. If you already have your bags packed and ready to go, here are some traveling tips to help you get the best out of your WSOP trip.

1. Familiarize yourself with the WSOP schedule
Like in past iterations, the event organizers for the WSOP 2023 tournament will release the schedule early. It is important that you keep an eye out for these and other WSOP updates so you can plan your trip accordingly. The goal is to determine the events you will play and create a schedule around them.

2. Book your flight early
Once you know what events you will be playing, try to book your flight as early as possible. The earliest bookings produce the best deals, and you can save some money on your travel budget. Since you probably won’t be in Las Vegas for the entire tournament, book dates around when you will be playing.

3. Stay close to the venue
If you are attending the tournament alone, it will be cheaper to stay at a hotel. If you are traveling with a group, you can rent a house and share the costs, which will be more convenient. Either way, try to stay close to Bally’s – Las Vegas, the WSOP’s new home, to make moving around easier. This is especially important if you have never attended the tournament before.

4. Create a non-gambling budget
Of course, gambling is your main reason for going to the WSOP. However, your trip will involve much more than that. Think accommodation, meals, refreshments, entertainment, shopping, and more. Consequently, it would be wise to create a non-gambling budget for your trip. Things can get very expensive in Las Vegas, so try to stick to your budget as much as possible.

5. Create a poker bankroll
Once you have a non-gambling budget, create one for your poker needs. Determine the size of the bankroll you want to bring to the tournament and devise a strategy to help you make it last as long as possible. It is crucial that you do not mix this money with your other spending money.

6. Travel with experienced players
If you have never attended a WSOP event before, it is prudent to ask for guidance from people who have. Join an online poker forum and get in contact with other people planning to attend. If you can establish a trusting companionship, plan to travel with them. At the very least, ask for advice on the best places to stay, how to move around Las Vegas, where to eat, and more.

7. Update your poker skills
Unless you are a seasoned professional – and sometimes even then – it is important to update your poker strategy before a big competition. Go through the fundamentals of the game and polish your approach. If possible, play several live games to get comfortable with the format.

8. Prepare for anything
Finally, keep in mind that things may not go as planned. Your flight may be delayed; your hotel reservation may be canceled; the WSOP may change the schedule; and other curveballs. To avoid panicking, budget for emergencies and plan a few extra days into your itinerary. If nothing goes wrong, you will have a little extra money and a few free days to do whatever you want.

Wrapping up
The entire poker world is excited about WSOP 2023. But, if you wish to make the most of your time there, plan every aspect of your trip and leave the unpredictability for the poker tables.
