Global Tourism Forum 2011
‘Building New Models for Tourism Growth: Competitiveness & Responsibility’

As the world emerges from the global economic crisis, leader and decision makers continue to debate how to chart a more sustainable and equitable course for global growth. Tourism which represents 6% to 7% of the world’s employment, an estimated 5% of its GDP and US$ 1 trillion a year in export revenues, can make a significant contribution to a sustainable future. At the same time, tourism has a crucial role to play in facing the challenge of climate change and fair and inclusive development.

In spite of its proven contribution to global economic growth and development, the tourism sector still lacks the political and economic recognition required to fully harness its potential. The Global Tourism Forum 2011‘Building New Models for Tourism Growth: Competitiveness & Responsibility’ organized by the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) in the spectacular natural setting of the Principality of Andorra, will bring together key stakeholders from the travel and tourism sector, opinion leaders, economists and policy makers and provide a truly global platform to share strategic insights and demonstrate the role travel and tourism can play in addressing major global challenges.
