Greece seems to go ahead ignoring possibilities in the tourism sector

Although the situation can only be described as dramatic, apart the latest situation in the Mediterranean area, our country seems to go ahead ignoring possibilities, dangerous policies and confirming our backward mentality in many cases. The present close up of Egypt and Tunis should in every logic favour Greece but nothing is done to profit from this situation.

Prices increase up to 50%, new villas in Syvota are offered at 16,000 euros per week, a price that you don’t imagine even at Miami. Many complexes offer very good commission in May, June and September but nothing in July and August. Various owners offer a mere 5,00 euros per day commission that covers only the costs of booking, which shows the ignorance of many who believe that can do business only with tourists who arrive, or through independent web sites.

The government two years ago had promised to favour another ferry line from Venice and Ancona in order to increase availability and maintain price stability. Now we find many dates fully booked, which means great difficulties in peak season. Air connections, of which I also wrote to you before, remain the misery of the past but operating in many cases only as seasonal connections.

This year we should have a great boom in Greece but I am afraid it will remain only as a possible statistic.
