The Education Foundation congratulates the scholarship recipients and wishes them success in their academic and professional endeavors. The foundation is committed to supporting excellence in education and fostering the development of the hospitality industry in the Caribbean region.
FORT LAUDERDALE, FLORIDA – The CHTA Education Foundation announce the recipients of its 2023 scholarship program. Eight scholarships have been awarded to outstanding Caribbean nationals who are pursuing degrees in hospitality management, business administration, or related fields.
The scholarship recipients are:
- Roan Akeem Jacobs, from Antigua & Barbuda, who will study Food & Beverage Management, Cornell Certificate Program at eCornell Online.
- Koby Samuel, from Antigua & Barbuda, who will study for a Bachelor’s of Business Administration in Hospitality Management at Monroe College.
- Alisa Smith, from Antigua & Barbuda, who will study for a Bachelor’s of Business Administration in Hospitality Management at Monroe College.
- Chantelle Lacle, from Aruba, who will study for a Bachelor’s in International Tourism at the University of Aruba.
- Rhema Blackman, from the Bahamas is pursuing a Bachelor’s in Culinary Arts and F&B Management at Johnson & Wales University.
- Kadia Jackson, from Jamaica, who will study for a Bachelor of Business Administration in Hospitality Management at the University of the Commonwealth Caribbean.
- Sophia Rios Herrera, from Trinidad & Tobago, who will study for a Bachelor in Hotel Management at Les Roches Marbella, Spain.
- Ira Claxton, from St. Croix, USVI will be studying for a Master’s in Hospitality Management with a specialization in Hotel Real Estate Development at Florida International University.
“As a Caribbean national, the CHTAEF scholarship allows me the opportunity to attend a world-renowned hospitality program such as FIU’s Master of Science in Hospitality Management with a Specialization in Hospitality Real Estate Development. The program will give me the necessary tools and knowledge to become a part of the next generation of hospitality development professionals, from and of the region,” stated Ira Claxton, who has been a long-standing volunteer with the CHTA and other tourism promotion initiatives.
“My career would not be possible without this financial assistance,” explained Sophia Rios Herrera of Trinidad & Tobago. “This scholarship will allow me to maximize my university experience by accessing service learning, volunteer opportunities and internships.”
Roan Jacobs, a bartender at Jumby Bay Island Resort in Antigua & Barbuda said “Enhancing my knowledge with the support of the CHTA Education Foundation Scholarship, will give me a more in-depth knowledge and expertise in this field which is a central component of the hospitality industry. The skills acquired through this program will position me for future career progression.”

They have also shown their commitment to serving their communities and making a positive impact on the world.
