77% Millennials: IAQ data will make them feel safer to stay at a hotel

77% of millennials would feel at least slightly safer staying at a hotel with access to real-time IAQ information on their devices.

A third of high-income millennials are planning to spend more than $5,000 on an upcoming luxury trip. Hotels are seeing an early uptick of group bookings for social gatherings like long-postponed weddings, family reunions, and traveling sports teams. This presents an opportunity to attract group bookings as early travelers decide where to stay with their friends and families.

Yet a Carbon Lighthouse survey due out on 6/3 reveals that 66% of millennial travelers are concerned specifically about the indoor air quality (IAQ) in hotels and that offering guests real-time IAQ information will help them feel safer about staying at a hotel.

  • 77% of millennials would feel at least slightly safer staying at a hotel with access to real-time IAQ information on their devices
  • 73% of millennials would consider IAQ when booking a stay or attending a social gathering

Hotels have long managed air quality. Now it’s time to market that back to guests to help them make informed decisions about where to stay.

Raphael Rosen, CEO of Carbon Lighthouse, stated on Recent MIT Data and CDC Indoor Guidance, “We’ve endured over a year of social distancing and remote lifestyles. Now, the CDC, MIT, and global researchers are citing emerging evidence that indoor air quality (IAQ), not distancing, will impact the spread of COVID-19 (and other viruses) indoors. As a result, many are struggling to feel safe when returning to public indoor spaces after 12+ months of lockdown. However, we found that 82% of millennials, who will account for 75% of the workforce by 2025, say that real-time IAQ data will make them feel safer to return to work or travel. There isn’t any industry that can dismiss such a critical need from consumers and still recover. We must prove, with data and science, that the air indoors is safe.”
