AC Hotel development represents the most recent transformation of the tourism sector in Puerto Rico.
Secretary of Government, Grace M. Santana Balado; Executive Director of the Puerto Rico Tourism Company (PRTC), Ingrid I. Rivera Rocafort; President and CEO of Interlink, Federico Sanchez-Ortiz; and Vice President of the Caribbean and Latin America for Marriott International Inc., Andrew Houghton, announced the start of the construction for AC Hotel by Marriott in Condado, San Juan. The project equates to an estimated $45 million investment and will create nearly 520 new jobs throughout the construction and opening phases.
The AC Hotel will have 233 modern guestrooms, 48 which are suites, with a balcony. Accommodations include a pool, gym, rooftop lounge, meeting and activity spaces, and a restaurant. The hotel inauguration is scheduled to take place in the third quarter of 2017.
“The tourism industry emerged from the recession and continues to accomplish great things. With the opening of AC Hotel by Marriot, we see how well the tourism industry is doing in Puerto Rico and how this helps foster positive economic developments on the Island,” said Santana Balado.
The opening of the new AC Hotel will benefit both locals and tourists of Puerto Rico. The development will increase employment rates and the livelihood of the Condado neighborhood, providing greater opportunities for locals. For tourists, both domestic and foreign, it increases accessibility to entertainment and food scenes, as well as to the Island’s beautiful beaches.
“The arrival of AC Hotel by Marriot creates new offerings in an essential tourist destination like Condado. In addition to creating new jobs, the arrival of AC Hotel helps shed a positive light on the economic development of the Island,” said Rivera Rocafort.
“We are thrilled with the construction of the AC Hotel and are confident this will become an essential piece to global tourism destinations as we continue to enhance the San Juan sector. This development continues to strengthen our relationship with Marriott,” said Sanchez-Ortiz.
