The Accor<.> hotel chain is reinforcing its presence in the local market through major investment plans involving the establishment of new Ibis hotels in Greece.

Additionally, Accor is undertaking the construction of the hotel at the new Eleftherios Venizelos international airport at Spata.

The company`s figures for the 1999 financial year were especially encouraging, with sales turnover rising 8.5 percent to 6.1 million euros.

Accor underwent significant expansion last year. It bought the US firm Red Roof Inns, which constitute 322 hotel units. It also acquired the European chains Frantour, Good Morning, Demeure and Libertel. Accor purchased 639 hotels and 69,030 beds in 1999, bringing the total number of units to 3,234 and beds to 354,652. Last year, five new casinos were added to the Accor stable.

As well as hotels, the firm operates restaurants in Brazil and Spain, owns part of the Europcar hire car company and has travel agencies.
