Choice Hotels welcomes Lake Placid's Hotel North Woods to its Ascend Hotel Collection

The location of the 92-room Hotel North Woods is ideal for travelers visiting Lake Placid, one of the oldest vacation destinations in the United States.

ROCKVILLE, MD. – The Ascend Hotel Collection from Choice Hotels International, Inc. announced the addition of the Hotel North Woods in Lake Placid, the Crown Jewel of the Adirondack’s High Peaks Region, to its rapidly expanding and distinguished list of unique upscale, boutique properties. The hotel is located at 2520 Main St, Lake Placid, New York and is the only lodging property in Lake Placid where you can see all five Olympic venues from the past two Winter Olympic Games that were hosted there.

“The essence of the Ascend Hotel Collection is to honor the unique and colorful spirit of locally owned hotels and the communities in which they serve. From its vital role in the region’s hospitality history to the hotel’s warm Adirondack decor, friendly service and the cuisine they serve, Hotel North Woods is a perfect fit,” said Neil Cantor, head of the Ascend Hotel Collection. “It is with great pride that we welcome Hotel North Woods to the Ascend Hotel Collection”.

The location of the 92-room Hotel North Woods is ideal for travelers visiting Lake Placid, one of the oldest vacation destinations in the United States. The hotel is located in the heart of Main Street within two blocks of the Olympic Center, providing easy access to shopping, restaurants, parking, the Mirror Lake Beach, and the various events Lake Placid hosts throughout the year. It is also just 20 minutes from world-class skiing at Whiteface Mountain, the greatest vertical drop on the east coast at 3,430 feet.

Hotel North Woods comes with a rich history, dating back to the nineteenth century. C.W. Kenney built a small hotel, the Northwoods Inn, on his property in 1897 when Lake Placid was just beginning to become a tourist destination appreciated for its natural beauty. Since then, Hotel North Woods has become well known for its live music, cozy, yet modern atmosphere, tasty food and warm, inviting staff.

In addition to its favorable location, Hotel North Woods also boasts year-round entertainment and adventure. Guests are encouraged to tap into the hotel’s exceptional amenities and offerings. These include custom bike rentals as well as “choose your own adventure” programs including, but not limited to, photography, skiing, white water rafting, and world-class golf. The hotel has two restaurants, each with a distinctive atmosphere and dining experience, lounge areas and onsite catering. One of the restaurants, Delta Blue, offers live music every Wednesday, Friday and Saturday night. The property also features a signature pet-friendly program dubbed Outward Hound which offers the use of custom pet beds (available in Large and Extra-Large), pet dining stations, as well as a complimentary, house-made Nutty Maple Bacon dog treats.

“The Ascend Hotel Collection gives us the ability to incorporate the support of Choice Hotels, a respected national brand, with our independent, family owned brand,” said Garrick Smith, owner and General Manager of Hotel North Woods. “We are so eager to share the magic of the Lake Placid area with Choice Privileges members and our new guests.
