David John “D.J.” McCarthy comes to Sunset Key most recently from Amara Cay Resort where he served as general manager since early this year.
KEY WEST, FLA. – David John "D.J." McCarthy has been named General Manager at Sunset Key Cottages, effective immediately. Mr. McCarthy is responsible for all service and operational aspects of the resort which features 40 cottages and upscale amenities.
Mr. McCarthy comes to Sunset Key most recently from Amara Cay Resort where he served as general manager since early this year and prior to that, the Courtyard by Marriott Lake Buena Vista where he had been general manager since 2013. He began his career in the hospitality industry in 1997 and has also held general manager positions at The Cliffs Resort in Graford, Texas and the Holiday Inn & Suites Phoenix Airport North in Arizona, and served as assistant general manager at the Hollywood Beach Marriot in Florida. Mr. McCarthy has worked in hospitality systems management as a senior solutions manager for NCR, a leader in hospitality transaction technology, and a hotel systems implementation specialist at Micros Systems Inc. He graduated from Becker College in Leicester, Massachusetts, with an associate's degree in hospitality management.
Mr. McCarthy is married and has a nine-year-old son. He is an avid runner and a recreational golfer, but his preferred downtime activity is a day-off spent with family.
