Key International announces Marriott Stanton South Beach new resort designation

Second phase of $22 million renovation complete.

MIAMI – Key International, a prominent real estate investment and development company specializing in hospitality, announced its Marriott Stanton South Beach property has received a resort designation by Marriott International, Inc. This news follows the completion of the second phase of the property’s $22 million renovation, which added a full-service spa, specialty fitness and training programs and an award-winning Japanese dining concept, Azabu.

Located at 161 Ocean Drive, in Miami Beach’s exclusive South of Fifth district, the 224-room resort is a laid-back luxe retreat for the discerning, yet free-spirited traveler who seeks tranquility and ease in the heart of a bustling city. The first phase of the multi-million-dollar development repurposing and expansion was completed in January 2017, with the addition of award-winning Lolo’s Surf Cantina – a Mexican beachside eatery.

“We are elated to present guests with the comprehensive additions to the renovated Marriott Stanton South Beach under its new resort classification,” said Diego Ardid, co-president of Key International. “Each purposefully-appointed concept was intended to reach our goal of delivering an amenity-rich retreat that offers esteemed culinary experiences, and premium fitness and wellness programs, all in a distinguished location.”

Enhanced offerings to achieve resort designation include:

  • Stanton Spa – Presenting 1,500 square feet of serenity that overlooks the property’s lush landscaping, the sea-inspired space complements the hotel’s existing midcentury modern design, while incorporating natural, earth tones and organic elements.
  • Body treatments are curated by Aroma Therapy Associates, the highly-regarded London-based brand, while products are offered by THALGO, the leading skin care company featured in more than 20,000 top spas and resorts worldwide. Innovative massage, facial, scrub, and wrap treatments cater to a range of needs, including Hot Sea Shell Therapy, a massage using lava shells to tackle muscle tension; and Alpha Beta Firming Peel, a facial using LED light therapy from celebrity dermatologist Dr. Dennis Gross. The spa is operated by NFC – a five-star amenity management provider.
  • Three new treatment rooms are designed to bring in the essence of the outdoor beachside oasis, using textured jute rugs to resemble sand, a nautical color palette and custom-made pieces. Equipped for ultimate relaxation, the couple’s suite features a rain shower and deluxe soaking tub for use pre- or post-treatment.
  • Fitness Center – The Fitness Center was expanded to present targeted services designed for weight loss, sports conditioning, strength training and more, with personalized one-on-one sessions available. Specialty training includes functional fitness, movement specialists, boxing and yoga. This amenity is also operated by NFC.
  • Azabu – Conceived by Plan Do See’s Michelin-starred Sushi Azabu New York, the authentic Japanese dining experience brings a variety of gourmet selections to locals and hotel guests alike. Unique to the Miami Beach location, an 80-seat, full-service dining room and hidden sushi counter will accompany a classic-style, sake and whiskey cocktail bar. Helmed by Chef Masatsugu Kubo (Chef Masa), the menu offers artfully-prepared sushi, traditional dishes and charcoal-grilled plates. Open daily and ideal for guests seeking engaging activities on-property, Azabu boasts an open kitchen, allowing guests to observe the chef’s Japanese cooking methods.

Surrounded by natural wood elements, a six-foot Bonsai fixture serves as the dining room’s centerpiece, setting a harmonious tone throughout the space. Emphasizing the importance of true craftsmanship, cocktails are served in glassware made by a Japanese artisan.

“This new designation marks the success of a collaboration of industry talents who worked diligently to elevate Marriott Stanton South Beach into an all-encompassing, world-class property in an essential and booming market,” added Shawn Gracey, Executive Vice President of Hospitality with Key International.

Next to deliver, the street-accessible Starbucks will re-open in quarter one of 2018, following its complete upgrade as part of the renovation investment. Hotel guests and locals will have convenient access to the brand’s signature brews, artisanal pastries and fresh juices.

Marriott Stanton South Beach is a leading asset within Key International’s robust hotel and resort portfolio throughout the Southeast U.S. and in Spain. The company owns and manages a diverse collection of hotels under the Marriott, Hilton and InterContinental Hotels Group flags. Key International also recently purchased Hampton Inn & Suites by Hilton Destin, Florida.
